PLANNING SERVICES
RF Distribution
Sky Communications employs a number of RF Engineers and utilises a number of contract engineers. Sky Communications have performed Broadcast, Cell and Transmission Planning for large scale projects such as the Walker Wireless UTRAN rollout, the TelstraClear microwave network and the design and deployment of the nation-wide TV3 and TV4 transmission networks. Our RF Engineering personal have performed design and optimisation of AMPS, DAMPS, CDMA 1XRTT, GSM and WCDMA networks.
Current software capabilities include:
- Path Profile Acquisition
- Dimensional terrain modelling
- Digital terrain relief mapping
The following briefly describes the services Sky Communications can offer, but any of the modules below can be customised for any particular requirement. Most of these modules can be provided as a hard copy printout or as a graphic.
Path Profiles
Given transmit and receive locations, path profiles can be produced showing Fresnel zones, path distances, azimuth directions and other relevant details. Other information such as obstruction analysis for independent path calculations can be exported.
Linking Analysis
Path calculation including diversity, multipath, rain absorption loss, worst month and other linking parameters are used to produce a complete report on the linking system.
Radio Licensing
Providing licensing services for all aspects of radio communications and management of these services.
Intervisibility
This service is best described as a ‘line of sight’ analysis. A transmit location is specified and whatever is visible (or invisible) can be displayed. This is useful when identifying possible linking sites and also for Multi-point Video Distribution System (MVDS) coverage.
3 Dimensional Terrain Modeling
Both fish-net and surface modeling can be performed. This is useful when analysing a link for possible multipath or layering interference. Target receive positions can be displayed as well as roads and other features for orientation purposes.
Terrain Topographical Relief
This provides a ‘bird’s-eye view’ of the terrain, with complete flexibility and control over palettes and other display features. Roads, place names and other features can be added to the map.
Mapping
Detailed, accurate maps (frequently updated) can be produced. Areas such as parks, regional authorities, territorial local boundaries etc are available.
Electromagnetic Emission (EME) Plots
Cumulative EME Plotting Service
Sky Communications maintains licences and has significant experience with the production of Cumulative Flux Density reports to assist councils with the approval of RMA applications involving multi antenna or multi network sites.
The software combines the plumes from all transmit sources at a given location and produces a cumulative plume that can then be incorporated into a scale plan or elevation site drawing.
This enables demonstration to councils and landowners as to how the proposed service relates to New Zealand and regional standards for RF emissions. Relative distance and flux density reports can also be generated.
EME Standard:
The current general public RF EME exposure limit (PEL) established by NZS 2772:Part 1:1999 for mobile phone frequencies is 450 microwatts per centimetre squared (mW/cm²). Local RF emission standards vary between different Regional Councils.
Predicted EME levels: (maximum site capacity)
The assessment height for these calculations is 1.5m above ground level. The Maximum EME level in the immediate vicinity of the site was found to be 6.947E-1 µW/cm² at 40.91m from the site.
